Peoria High School Alumni Golf Outing

Alumni and friends hit the links for some fun and a good cause!

On June 6th, 2025, many Alumni and friends showed up to not only play a little golf , but to also share those stories for way back when.  Approximately 70 golfers made the trek to Weaver Ridge Golf Course to play not only for a good cause supporting the Alumni Association but also to honor longtime Peoria High player, teacher and coach of many generations...Coach Mike Lawless.   The weather held for us to play and the day turned out to be a great day to hit the links.  As golfers trickled in during the registration hour they got to see many friends.  Coach Lawless was there too to greet our golfers.  The golfers hit the course at 1:00pm sharp.  By about 5:00pm, golfers began rolling into the clubhouse with scores in hand.  Fun competition was had by all as they strove to have the longest drive, closest to the pin and longest putt.  The scores were tabulated and the winning team was comprised PHS faculty members. Matt McCaw, Tim Mahan, Ben Mahan and Michael Deg had the Winning score by 17 under par.

The golfing was topped off by a dinner afterwards with our guest of honor Coach Mike Lawless.  Before Coach lawless took the to the podium, there were prizes to be claimed.  A special thanks to all those who sponsored raffle prizes and portions of the golf outing.  You all made it a huge success.

A few challenge categories were awarded to our golfers.  The winner of the longest drive was Marcellus Sommerville.  The winner of the longest drive for the ladies was Nanci Sellers.  Longest putt winner was Dave Tealby.  Closest to the pin on a par 4 with a drive was Jerry Sweet.

Following the raffle prizes, some longtime friends of Coach Lawless took to the podium to honor their longtime friend for his decades of coaching and mentoring the students from not only Peoria High School but many other schools around District 150.  Several students came back to say hello to their mentor.  Morton Head Football Coach, Adam O'Neill, and childhood friend and PHS football icon, Bob Jockisch spoke about Mike and his impact on area athletics.   Other coaches, players and students were also present.  The event was filled with fun and memories.  Our guest of honor took to the podium and told a few stories

and thanked those along the way throughout his career.  Mike's wife Kay was also in attendance.   A proclamation from the City of Peoria was presented to Coach Lawless for his long and honorable service not only for his long teaching career but the mentoring and impact on the students he coached over the years!

We would like to thank all the golfers, former students and friends of Coach Lawless who came back to have some fun and celebrate his outstanding achievements.  A big thanks to Kristi Moushon who donated the proceeds of the 50/50 back to the Alumni Association!

We look forward to next year!
