Dr. Myrtle Irene Brown
Class of 1932
Dr. Myrtle
Irene Brown traveled the country sharing her knowledge and expertise as
a Nurse Research Consultant for the American Nurses Foundation. She was
professor and Dean of the School of Nursing at Duke University, and then
while serving as professor and Dean of Graduate Programs at the
University of South Carolina School of Nursing, she helped create
graduate and Master’s degree and Advanced Nurse Practitioner programs.

Richard Lyall Ellis

Richard Ellis
is a pediatrician and a clinical professor at the University of
Wisconsin. In 1992, he presented information to the Wisconsin Academy
of Pediatrics regarding the link of domestic violence to child abuse.
Subsequently, he helped design programs for physicians and medical
personnel to educate them about domestic violence and its link to child
abuse. This was one of the first programs for medical personnel. (2009)
Julia H. Johnston
Class of 1867
“Miss Julia”
wrote numerous books, including books of poetry; and over 500 hymns and
gospel songs. Her hymns are sung in churches to this day. She was the
Sunday school Superintendent of the First Presbyterian Church of Peoria
for 41 years. Also, she was one of the most prominent church women in
Illinois, as well as a teacher at Peoria High School. (2009)
William G. Mitchell
Class of 1934
William G.
Mitchell helped develop the trucking industry. After serving in the Air
Force during World War II and receiving the bronze medal, he joined
Eastern Express Trucking with responsibilities for government and
industry affairs and national account marketing. After serving Eastern
as the chairman of the board, he became a transportation industry
consultant. He then founded Oliver Trucking. He served on many
transportation boards and helped develop systems that enhance
transportation organizations. (2009)
Maurine Montgomery
Gibbs
Class of 1924
Maurine
Montgomery Gibbs, artist and teacher, studied at Bradley, Columbia,
Cranbrook (MI) with Swedish sculptor Carl Milles, and did studio work in
Rome. She taught in Peoria, Kalamazoo, and Cranbrook Brookside School.
Her sculptures include “Dancers” and “Awakening,” shown at the Art
Institute and PA Academy of Fine Arts. The Homewood post office contains
her carved relief “The Letter,” a government commission installed in
1942. (2009)
Dick Neumiller
Class of 1949
Dick Neumiller
served as a member of the Peoria City Council from 1973 – 1984, and as
Mayor of Peoria from 1984-1985. He retired from Central Illinois Light
Company in 1996. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Knox College, served
in the U.S. Army and on numerous local boards. An avid photographer,
his photographs have been recognized by the Center for Railroad
Photography and Art.(2009)
Frederick J. Stuber
Class of 1957
Business
Executive & CPA, Fred served as the Chief Financial Officer and
Corporate Secretary of Foster & Gallagher Inc. He was the financial
genius behind the astronomical growth from the formation days, until it
was sold. Fred served as Chairman of The Children’s Home Assoc. of
Illinois and The Salvation Army Advisory Board. He was President of the
Peoria Symphony Orchestra Board. He served many other civic
organizations. (2009)
Tim Swain
Class of 1957
Airborne
Ranger Infantry Officer Tim Swain served in the 101st
Airborne Division, including service in the Central Highlands of Vietnam
in 1965. He is an exceptional civil lawyer experienced in both State and
Federal trial and appellate courts. Tim has served on The Salvation
Army’s National Advisory Board, the United States Army Ranger
Association’s National Board, and many additional Civic Boards. (2009)
